AWC/PS Board Members off to China!
By Sheryl Hall
It is with bittersweet enthusiasm that I write this article. First of all, on a melancholy
note, three of the AWC/PS board members, Patrice Molinarolo, Sojn Hudson and myself,
will not be joining the rest of you for the 98/99 program kick-off meeting. However,
the exciting news is that we will be joining 17 other National and Independent AWC members
in China for an International Information Technology exchange!
Bearing this news, I thought you might enjoy a quick review and update of the invitation
to AWC to send a delegation of computing professionals to China. And, by the time you
read this, we will be embarking on this once in a life-time professional journey!
This invitation was extended to our association by the China Women’s Association for
Science and Technology and the China Association for Science and Technology in the fall of
1997. The intention of our trip is to build professional and educational relationships.
The trip is during the period of September 10-24, 1998 and will consist of 70% business
and 30% cultural events (see agenda below). It will consist of professional programs in
Beijing, Hefei, Wuxi, and Shanghai. The Chinese hosting delegations have arranged professional
meetings, selected organization tours and speaking engagements.
Additionally, we will have the opportunity to share and exchange information relative to our
professional careers and our organizations/companies. We will also be taking along
professional packages, brochures, gifts, and other information to share with our counterparts.
Five women from the AWC/PS chapter have accepted this invitation and plan to attend.
We represent a broad range of private and public organizations:
Sojn Hudson, AWC National President, Business Analyst, Washington School Information Processing Cooperative (WSIPC)
Anne Baker, Traffic Manager, RealNetworks
Sheryl Ann Hall, WA State Department of Fish and Wildlife I/T Manager
Patrice Molinarolo, Systems Analyst/Programmer
Laurie Porad, Past AWC National President and Computer Support and Training, Ben Bridge
We are all extremely proud and honored to have such a great opportunity to represent the
AWC/PS, our business organizations, as well as the state of Washington.
Equally, we are greatful to have this first-hand experience to learn from Chinese
professionals in the Information Technology field. To learn more about this exchange,
visit our web pages at:
AWC National web page http://www.awc-hq.org
AWC/PS Chapter web page http://www.scn.org/ip/awc/awc.html
Finally, in March, we will hold a very special program event in the Seattle International
District. We will bring this program to you, share our experiences, professional tips,
our emotions, the fun times, the serious ones, and the memory makers!
