AUG 7 - 8, at The Bush School in Seattle; SUMMER ANTI- RACISM INSTITUTE. Join us for a profound learning experience about race. You'll join a diverse group of people for experiences and discussions about race that are unique and often life changing. Racism remains one of our major challenges. The law prohibits discrimination, but does not alone improve cross-race understanding. The Summer Anti-Racism Institute will give participants a new awareness of how racism is connected to conscious and unconscious attitudes. Through open conversation, experiential exercises, and expert facilitation, participants will learn how racism impacts their own lives and the lives of others. Most important, participants will learn how they can improve cross-race interactions in the places where they live and work. The Summer Anti-Racism Institute will not offer lectures on EEO/AA guidelines or an overview of the courtesies and customs of different cultural groups. Instead, the Institute will bring together a group of energized individuals who will gain new insights about race and make positive changes in themselves and others. The Summer Anti-Racism Institute will offer: an investigation of how early messages about race shape perceptions; an exploration of racial privilege and its impact on the individual and society; experiential learning about societal power dynamics; an opportunity to learn key skills to address racism. *FRI AUG 8, 7 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church Gynasium, 23rd Ave. NW & 65th St. NW, Ballard, Seattle; 9/11-RELATED FILMS, A Tribute To Fresh Kills and The Reflecting Pool are being shown by their filmmakers, Rebecca Em Campbell and Jarek Kupsc, followed by discussion. A Tribute To Fresh Kills is a seven-minute poetry video of a powerful prophetic psalm to 9/11 recited by its author, accompanied by artfully montaged stock footage of 9/11, historical symbolic images and excerpts from the Organ Symphony of Camille St. Saens. The Reflecting Pool is the first full-length theatrical film about 9/11 that is not government propaganda. It grippingly and grittily tells the, unfortunately, still- fictional story of the first investigative journalist to do a full expose of 9/11 approaching it from an angle other than that of the official story, passionately aided by the father of one of the victims and a supportive magazine editor. $10 at the Door.
