Cutty Sark
Bellevue Frame Shop

10237 Main Street

This simple retail building, which has a commercial vernacular style, was constructed in 1946. The original owner was Agnes C. Stewart. The building is a good example of the enframed window wall popular through the 1940s. This type of structure reflected an effort to give greater order to the facade composition of small and moderate-sized commercial buildings by enframing much of the building with a wide and continuous border of glass.

Although this building was constructed later than many of the original Main Street structures it is included this survey because it retains much of its original character and still houses retail use. The building reflects the study unit theme of commerce. It also reflects the desire to make the interior more visible and accessible to the public.
