Calvert House

415 SE Shoreland Drive

This is the first house built in this area of Bellevue. It was originally built by William Calvert Sr. as a summer home. It represents the early period of Bellevue's history when waterfront homes were built as summer cottages by wealthy Seattle families. Frank Calvert was one of the founders of Beaux Arts village.

The Calvert House was featured in Homes and Gardens of the Pacific Coast by Frank Calvert in 1913. According to this source, its style was inspired by cottage homes of England. The view of the Lake Washington and Seattle from the site is stunning.

The Calvert House relates to the study unit theme of architecture, despite its alterations, and is also important for its history.
