Bovee House

1532 108th Ave NE

Charles Wesley Bovee Sr. was Bellevue's first mayor in 1953. Bovee bought the property for $125, and built this house in 1921-1922. Subsequently, he moved his family from Seattle to Bellevue. In 1925, Mr. Bovee started Bellevue Realty, which he operated until he retired in 1946.

Mayor Bovee held the first two city council meetings in this house. Mr. Bovee was a gardening enthusiast, and he planted flowers, shrubs, and trees from all over the world on his property. Mr. Bovee sold four acres to the City for a park. Bovee Park was named in his honor.

Although the house has changed considerably over the years and has little architectural integrity, it relates to the study unit theme of politics/government/law due to its connection with Mayor Bovee. It is included in the historical survey because of this association with Mayor Bovee.
