Bellevue Fire Station No. 1
14 102nd Avenue NE
This former fire station is one of the extant buildings from Bellevue's early years as a city. The property was acquired by King County Fire Protection District No. 14 in 1942, and the building was constructed in 1945-1946, before the City of Bellevue was incorporated in 1953.
The fire station was remodeled in 1959 and remained in use until 1972. Today, it is owned by R.R. Jenkins and houses a variety of businesses. Although there have been several additions and storefronts added, the building retains its basic plan and the old tower.
The old fire station building relates to the study unit themes of architecture and politics/government/law. It is included in this survey because it is one of the few public buildings from this era that is extant. This building was identified as of secondary importance in a 1986 survey of Old Bellevue by Chronicles and Design cultural resources consultant Michael Sullivan.
