Frank Odle House

10629 NE 17th Street

The Frank Odle House was built in 1911 and is the oldest extant residence in this area of Bellevue. It is known as the Frank Odle House because long-time Bellevue school teacher Frank Odle lived there from the 1920s until the 1950s.

In 1918, Frank Odle came to Bellevue to serve as superintendent of Bellevue District No. 49. In 1968, Frank Odle retired after 55 years of teaching, 50 in the Bellevue public schools. Odle Middle school is name after him. At his memorial service in 1969, President Nixon and Governor Evans recognized Odle for having the longest teaching career in the history of Washington State.

The house has remained relatively architecturally intact over the years, except for the addition of a Spanish-style tile roof. The Odle House is included in this survey because of its age, integrity and association with Frank Odle. It relates to the study unit theme of architecture.
