Personal background

One of the dancers from Enzian Schuhplattler introduced my family to folk dancing in 1975. At that time, dozens of high school students from Ballard, Snohomish, and White Center would dance at the Seattle Center Food Circus Court every Monday night. I didn't know until later that most of those dancers belonged to performing groups, but their joy and energy inspired me to start dancing.

I started performing with a local French group (On y Dance) two years later, but I had already lost my heart to German dancing. I finally got my chance to perform Schuhplattler in 1986 when the Navy decided to send my ship to a shipyard near Norfolk, Virginia. The local German performing group learned that my schedule allowed me to dance with them. I remember them fondly.

When I returned to Seattle in 1988, an old friend who runs a local Swiss dancing group invited me to join his group, but their rehearsal schedule conflicted with my Scottish dancing. Later that year, another friend invited me to attend an Enzian rehearsal. I had seen the Enzians perform about three years after I started dancing, and they really impressed me. I was more than willing to give up my Wednesday night activities, and I have danced with them ever since.

I graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Electrical Engineering. I can be reached via email.
