I was learning to folk dance in Tacoma when I was approached by Mark Siders and asked to join Alpentanz Gruppe, a performance group that performed primarily Austrian and Swiss dances. Mark promised to give me private instruction to improve my dancing, so I agreed to join. I remained a member of that group until they disbanded in 1997.
In May of 1998, I joined Enzian Schuhplattler, and in February of 1999, my significant other, Mary Pearse, also joined the group. Mary and I got married on October 2, 2004. I enjoy performing and dancing, and Mary and I have attended Gaufests in Minneapolis and New York.
I was officially appointed as Fahnentraeger in 2002, although I have been unofficially acting in that capacity for several years.
In addition to German dancing, I enjoy Scandinavian dancing. I am also a professional carpenter and jack-of-all-trades and enjoy making props (like the Maibaum and new flag poles).
