Personal background

For years at church Christmas parties, Grandma and others would beg me to dance with them. I refused to get out on the dance floor because I did not want to embarrass myself. They were naturally unhappy.

So, I took ballroom dance lessons for several months in 1986, achieving beginner status in waltz, foxtrot, rhumba, tango. At the next Christmas party, I was ready. I got out on the dance floor and was shocked to learn that Grandma did not know any dance steps. She and all my relatives just 'wriggled' on the dance floor and had a great time. They were ecstatic to finally get to dance with me!

Dance started again in 2001 with 3 months of beginning waltz at Waltz Etcetera in Seattle. I have also been to several one-hour dance classes at Sonny Newman's dance hall, some folk dancing sessons at the Sno-King folkdancing group, and other groups.

Nancy and I saw the Enzian Schuhplattler at Leavenworth in the fall of 2002. We saw them again at the Seattle Center. Nancy asked if we could learn that style of dance and the Enzian group gave a very warm welcome.

The Enzian Schuhplattler have been a great source of pleasure, exercise and personal growth. I really look forward to the group dynamics and future performances.

I can be reached via email.
