Dimensional Flowers with Heidi Lund
February 25, 2000

Our own WAE Co-President Heidi Lund led us in making dimensional flowers shown in Kumiko Sudo's " Fabled Flowers : Innovative Quilt..." (FF) and "Fantasies & Flowers : Origami in Fabric..." (F&F).  Elly Sienkiewicz's "Dimensional Applique" has flowers, leaves, stems, baskets, etc. in the Baltimore Album style.  Rebecca Wat's "Fantastic Fabric Folding" wasn't available in time for our meeting, but is also applicable.

Here is another suggestion:  "Pieced Flowers" by Ruth B. McDowell, author of "Piecing".

It features straight piecing, curved piecing, and folded flaps.

Heidi brought us these samples:

Heidi brought templates for us, and we traced some of our own from the books.
Some flowers are folded from one layer of fabric,
and others are made from two layers sewn together & turned.
Start sewing in the middle of an edge.
For sharper corners, shorten stitch length as you approach the corner,
take one stitch across the corner, and trim fabric close to stitching.
