January
21, 2003 and February 18, 2003 - Fabric Collage with Heidi Lund
It would be difficult to impart the entire process in a 2 hour meeting, so let's go for a two month study and you can chose to make a tote, purse, vest or a quilt.
Supply List for January 21, 2003
-
Tote, Purse or Vest pattern (If bringing a vest pattern be sure it's one that
you know the fit, and that does not have a lot of design lines or seams.
Normally we would spend a couple of hours fitting our patterns on each other,
but I should think we would all have a pattern that we know fits to speed up
the process. Heidi prefers Rosemary Eichorn's patterns that only have shoulder
seams, but we can make any work. Should you wish to order one of Rosemary's
patterns, they are available from her website @ www.sewjourn.com
- 2 yards good quality pre-washed muslin
- Pins - (at least one full box - glass heads preferred)
- Fabric scissors
- An assortment of fabrics -- You'll need approximately 2 yards of fabric for a collaged
vest, but the great thing is that you will not need more than 1/4 yard of any
one fabric, so scraps are fine. If you plan to have 10 to 15 different
fabrics to choose from you will do fine. You may want to establish a theme
for your vest or quilt (i.e. holiday, nature, animals, floral etc). You will
want some motifs that are as big as your hand, like found in decorator
prints. Remember that variety is best so include some with distinct
geometric, stripes and/or large bold patterns. You may also want to consider
light and dark values while working on your collage.
- 2 yards of prewashed lining fabric for inside of vest
- Optional: tiny rotary cutter and small mat, and if you want to add some
glitz, bring small scraps of sequin fabric, novelty fabrics, lace, and tulle
