  Why I belong to PNNAG

PNNAG member Heidi Lund's  art quilt will appear in the 2005 Quilting Arts Calendar.

Heidi's small format art quilt "Blueberry Chrysalis" has been selected out of 28 finalists to appear in the 2005 Quilting Arts Calendar. She does not know which month, yet.

"The quilt started out to be moth cocoons (chrysalis), but when I got the slides back and looked at them on my lightbox.... they looked like blueberries!"

Rabari Embroidery Class
July 30 - 31 at the PNNAG Office

The Rabari artisans of Kutch, India are part of the Kala Raksha, a social enterprise working with traditional textile arts in the desert region of Kutch.  Kutch is world renowned for its mirrored embroideries.  Most of these were traditionally stitched by village women for themselves and their families to create festivity, honor deities, or generate wealth.  Embroideries contributed to the substantial economic exchange required for marriage and fulfilled other social obligations which required gifts.  Currently, Kala Raksha works with six distinct hand embroidery style:  the Sindh-Kutch regional style of Suyf, Khaarek and paako, and the ethnic styles of Rabari, Garasia Jat and Mutava.  For more information about this type of embroidery and the Kala Raksha, you can visit their website:  www.kala-raksha.org

Pin Needle Baskets Class
Saturday, October 23 at the PNNAG Office

The PNNAG Education Committee is bringing Sue Marvin to teach Pine Needle Baskets on Saturday October 23, 2004. Students will make a small pine needle basket using dyed pine needles and waxed linen. Those who choose to may also make a lid. Students will learn basic coiling technique including wrapped start, shaping, and making and fitting lids. Baskets will be embellished with beads.

Sue is a long-time member and past president of the Northwest Basket Weavers-Vi Phillips Guild. She has been making baskets for about 13 years and teaching extensively for about 10 years.

For this one-day class, Sue will provide prepared dyed needles, waxed linen thread, gauge, instructions, needles, and beads for a materials fee of $20.  The class will be held in our office at the Good Shepherd Center from 9:30 am - 5:00pm. Bring your lunch and supplies and have a great time.

Supply lists will be provided.
