Eric Docherty is a NYC area poet passed our way by Jurado. We hope to carry a lot of work from the young poets/writers in that area.

Love Poem

Even if I kill you I can't stop you
Even if I pray to you I can't change you
I can turn you into a sky and I can't
fly through you
you are beyond stone
moss cannot cover you
water welcomes you
into it like darkness into a
cave
every time I touch you
I am drained
beyond empty, it's
as though I never was here
photographs aren't you
statues made into your likeness
run into the woods
and scream
cats climb up my chest
and claw at my throat when I
say your name in my sleep
diamonds turn into whispering
bowls of ashes when you
pass by
and priests stich their collars
together and crave war
when you lick your lips
I leave my boots on all the
time when I'm near you
so I can leave fast
I never eat anything
around you
because I'm afraid it will
come back to life and
you'll know its name, because
you speak the language
of trees
when apples hit the ground
they call out for you, in vegetable
language
in the slaughterhouse,
they don't use cattle prods anymore.
they translate your name into
animal sounds
and the beasts rush to their
death
because they think they'll meet you
there
I know this
I'm one of them
