WATER-MARK



I don't like the hotel, once he's gone.
It's then I notice the picture's askew.
The drapes are stained from incessant rain that always seems to fall;
while mildew lines the sink
with a watermark showing how deep I've plunged.
I think I'll get dressed and close my briefcase,
with the few items I've taken from home,
knowing I'd be left alone,
in a room by a thoroughfare;
easy off, easy on
with a neon sign,
flashing;
