Bellevue History Timeline
1863-1879
1863
Aaron Mercer is believed to have taken up the earliest land acquisition. It was 80.5 acres and was located on what is now the west bank of the Mercer Slough.
1869
William Meydenbauer homesteaded the first claim site on what is now Meydenbauer Bay.
1870
Captain Allen took up a claim at the entrance to Mercer Slough which he farmed.
1873
Captain Sturtevant, Civil War veteran, took up a claim on the site of the present City Hall. He purchased property on a lake which was later named for him, and is now called Lake Bellevue.
1879
W. H. Miller settled in the Beaux Arts area.
1879
John Zwiefelhofer secured a 124 acre homestead patent near the present site of the Safeway Distribution Center.
