1986
Spanish Immersion Program was started (an alternative program).
Tuition based Kindergarten Extended Experience Programs (KEEP) were started in some elementary schools.
Pre-school programs were started in elementary schools and some high schools.

1989
Bellevue Junior High and the old Bellevue High (Union S) were torn down to make way for the Downtown Park. There were efforts made to save it, but they failed. The archway from over the front door, two truckloads of bricks, and the time capsule from the Union S building are being saved by the City.
Program Delivery Councils (PDQs) were formed throughout the school district in response to Bellevue School District Policy #6510 adopted June 6,1989. This policy concerns renewal and school centered decision making.

The old brick Medina School building was torn down. Some of the bricks were saved as was the school sign.
International School was started (an alternative program).

Two early-childhood centers were built at Spiritridge Elementary and Woodridge Elementary.
1995
The Bellevue School District has 16 elementary schools, 6 middle schools and 5 high schools.

In October, Bellevue School District's enrollment in the English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) program reached 1,306. There were students speaking almost 50 different languages. Paul Sjunnesen became interim school district Superintendent.

Dr. Michael Riley became school district Superintendent.

School Enrollment - 15,436
Full-day tuition based Kindergarten programs were made available in all Bellevue elementary schools, with financial assistance for low to moderate income families.
1998
Curriculum changes introduced for grades 6-12 for the 1998-1999 school year.
