John F. Henry House

9312 Vineyard Crest

This house, constructed in 1948, was the first house designed by Seattle architect, Fred Bassetti, to be built. It was also the first owner-built, architect-designed house in the Vuecrest subdivision, one of Bellevue's first planned residential developments. Its large plate glass windows and post and beam structure are characteristics of the Northwest Style and International Style architecture.

The house was featured in the Seattle Times and an open house was held on September 26, 1948.

The Henry House relates to the study unit theme of architecture. This house is included in the inventory because it is an early example of a modern, architect-designed house in the Bellevue area that retains its original character. It was suggested for inclusion by several prominent Northwest architects.
