Dick Burkhart and Mona Lee are co-founders of the Seattle Local Peoples Assembly. They regard themselves as global citizens and advocates for the Earth Charter, Deep Democracy, and a Global Parliamentary Assembly. 

Dick is also Lead Chair of the Charter Committee for the Global Peoples Assembly Network and Mona has been active on its Service Council. Mona was inspired at The Hague Appeal for Peace in 1999. Both conducted workshops at the Global Peoples Assembly in Apia, Samoa, in 2000 and at the Johannesburg Earth Summit in 2002.

Dick and Mona are life-long citizen activists, currently residing in Seattle’s multicultural Rainier Valley. They are very active in neighborhood, transit, and bicycle issues, in the Rainier Valley UU Congregation, in WILPF, WFA, UUJEC, and many other organizations. Dick is a professional mathematician, who recently took early retirement from Boeing, while his wife Mona has been a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of Washington.

Mona is author of the novel Alien Child, a story of intrigue and extra-terrestrial power creating a movement toward democratic global governance (www.openhand.com).

Dick and Mona have been active in peace and justice issues for many years. They worked with Philippino activists to organize a Peoples Assembly and march during the 1999 Seattle WTO demonstrations. Mona was active in the Ground Zero Center for Non-violent Action for many years. Dick taught math as a volunteer in Laos for two years - his alternative service during the Vietnam War.
