"This is a 5 day weekend. You go to jail today, you aren't getting out until Wednesday. Think about that before you take to the streets and clog traffic."  That was the provocative warning a group of us received from a Seattle police officer shortly before the ride began.

The June Mass was special. It was not a time of rejoicing and parading through the city on our bicycles - we were riding in a funeral wake for Yianni Philippides.  Yianni, a bike messenger, died the day before the June Mass from injuries he suffered while making a delivery - he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. According to our numbers, there were 155 cyclists.  The ride was relatively short - we wormed our way through downtown to Alaskan Way, to the site where Yianni was struck.  Friends gave their impromptu eulogies.  Then we rode to the Seattle Center and rode circles in the International Fountain.
