A note to anyone who happens across this website:

CCCS is no longer an active organization. We were able to win a strong policy against commercialism in the Seattle schools and provide encouragement to citizens in other communities around the state, and so our members have moved on to other battles. The CCCS web pages have not been updated in many years--the website is being left up in case any of the information here might be of help in your own campaign against commercialism in schools. Here are some other organizations that are currently active and which may be able to provide useful resources for your own work:

• New Commercial Free Organization in Ireland!
  Check out the Campaign for Commercial Free Education.
  This Dublin-based group is comprised of teachers, parents and concerned individuals who believe that school time should benefit children and not corporations who seek to exploit them as a captive audience. (December, 2005)
• WE DID IT!
  Seattle School Board Approves Comprehensive Suite of Nutrition Policies!
  Sales of Sodas and Junk Food Banned on School Campuses
  Thanks to a wonderful collaboration of staff, citizens and experts in the community, Seattle now has one of the best set of school nutrition policies in the country. Here's the Seattle Public Schools press release.
  Special thanks to Shelley Curtis of the Children's Alliance and Patricia Manuele from Public Health--Seattle & King County, for their expertise and leadership, and to the Citizens' Campaign for Commercial-Free Schools for their leadership in fighting the Seattle soda contract for the past seven years. Thanks also to the many other organizations who gave advice and moral support throughout this process, especially the Center for Science in the Public Interest and the Community Food Security Coalition.
