  • Dec. 3, 1996 Forum
    Advertising in the Seattle Public Schools. Featured speaker: Dr. Alex Molnar. (Co-sponsored by Seattle Council of PTSAs, the league of Women Voters, andthe Center for Commercial-Free Public Education)

  • Jan. 11, 1997 Forum
    Interactive Forum on Commercialism in the Seattle Public Schools. (Co-sponsored by American Association of University Women, Fast Forward Media Lab, Seattle Young People's Project E.Y.E.S., Church Council of Greater Seattle, the Center for Commercial-Free Public Education). Led to formation of CCCS.

  • Feb. 1997 CCCS Organized
    First organizational meeting of CCCS.

  • June, 1997 Publication
    Parent Guide to Commercialism in Schools, 1997. Oakland: The Center for Commercial-Free Public Education. (Brita Butler-Wall).

  • May 30, 1997 Walkthrough of Seattle Public Schools
    Provided community reps for study of 30 schools, leading to Report on Commercial Activities and Advertising in the Seattle Public Schools (Seattle: Seattle Council of PTSA) (Diane Morrison, Lisa Bond, and Brita Butler-Wall).

  • Nov. 1997- Sept. 1998 Ads Committee
    Participation on Seattle School Superintendent's Committee on Commercial Activities in the Seattle Public Schools (Karen Farnsworth, Mayanne Mercer, Brita Butler-Wall).

  • April 25, 1998 Resource Fair
    Moving on to Middle School, parent resource fair at Garfield Community Center (Co-Sponsored with Seattle Council of PTSAs, Center for Commercial-Free Public Education, League of Women Voters).

  • Oct. 1998 Coke Deal
    Unsuccessful battle to keep Seattle School District from signing exclusive pouring rights contract with Coca Cola.

  • May 12, 1999
    May 12, 1999 Forum Channel One Community Forum (Co-sponsored with 911 Media Arts Center, Center for Commercial-Free Public Education, Washington State PTSA).

  • Fall, 1999
    Co-Chair Dwight Van Winkle campaigned for Seattle School Board, raising issues of commercialism in schools.

  • Dec, 1999 Tabling
    Members tabled at International Forum on Globalization (teach-in prior to WTO meetings in Seattle), for the Center for Commercial-Free Public Education.
