ENDORSEMENT OF LETTER REGARDING COMMERCIALISM IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS FROM CITIZENS' CAMPAIGN FOR COMMERCIAL-FREE SCHOOLS TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Whereas the Seattle Community Colleges Federation of Teachers (SCCFT) has serious concerns about privatization and commercialism of our public education system, including both K-12 and Higher Education, and

Whereas advertising and promotion of commercial products on K-12 campuses is pervasive and poses numerous threats to the integrity and authority of our public schools, and

Whereas the proliferation of advertising in public schools is in part the result of inadequate state funding for public education, therefore be it

Resolved that the SCCFT endorses the letter (see attached) regarding commercialism in public schools from the Citizens' Campaign for Commercial-Free Schools to the Board of Directors, Seattle Public Schools and be it further

Resolved that the SCCFT support the Seattle Education Association's recommended policy on Advertising and Commercial Activity in the Seattle Public Schools (see attached).
