The Yun family

In 1986 after a two-year attempt, Bunly, Vatha and 2 month old Bunlay were finally able to immigrate to Seattle from Cambodia.

They moved into Holly Park, where Bunly began working for the Hopesake program building multi-income housing. Mr. Yun started looking for a home for his family, and found that they would never be able to afford to a decent home in the Seattle area. He heard about Habitat for Humanity from a friend - a recent Seattle Habitat homeowner!

In 1995 the Yun family began their application process. After applying, Mr. Yun immediately began volunteering on the Walker Townhouse site. By the time his application was finally approved he was regularly volunteering at Walker and working with the Social Service Department as an interpreter and counselor.

The Lexington Place home he was selected for had been started in August 1995 and was at the framing stage. The entire family began putting in many hours. Bunly helped with insulation while Vatha and the children were busy painting and cleaning.

Their home was finished and the family of five was able to move in, July of 1997!

Mr. Yun appreciated the opportunity to help build a home for his family so they could "move up in life". They are very thankful for the Seattle Habitat for Humanity volunteers and donors who helped them to achieve their goals. Mr. Yun feels that if he helps someone, maybe in the future they will help someone else.
