Second Use & Habitat for Humanity:
| ||||||
| In-kind donations come in all forms and from several
places. Traditionally, a potential donor has something
they think an organization might want, calls the
organization and offers, and the transaction is
completed. At Seattle Habitat for Humanity, sometimes this is the case. In the case of most building materials, however, another partner comes into use. Many of you may not know about the great working relationship Seattle Habitat and Second Use Building Materials have had for over a year. Second Use Building Materials is a for-profit business that sells re-used building material, thus also helping the environment. If a donor calls us at the Seattle Habitat office, and offers an item that we cant currently use or store, we most often refer them to Second Use. If Second Use determines they can use the item or items, and the donor indicates that they want their donation to benefit Seattle Habitat for Humanity, a receipt of items received is sent to Seattle Habitat and an acknowledgment is generated to the donor. Once Second Use sells the item, Seattle Habitat receives 50% of the sales price! A true win-win partnership. Those making a donation through Second Use should be aware that they may claim only 30 percent tax benefit. It is the donors responsibility to place a value on the items; Seattle Habitat will acknowledge the item(s) without reference to value. If you have any questions or wish to make a contribution, please call us at the Habitat office before calling Second Use. You may earmark your donation toward Seattle Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity for East King County of Habitat for Humanity of South King County. |
