"I'll be Home for the Holidays"

by Melissa Martin

You don’t need anyone to tell you that the holidays are upon us. Look around you. Take a trip to the airport or bus station. Try the shopping malls if you dare. You’ll see so many more people out and about, making the holidays "special".

Holidays connote warmth, good cheer and a comfortable home where you can enjoy family and friends. Seattle Habitat has six families hoping to be "home for the holidays"; and another five families hoping to be in their homes by early 1999.

Home for these families is a new concept and many are in awe of the challenge of home ownership. We know they are up to the challenge because we have worked beside them for many, many months and have seen firsthand their commitment to owning a home.

We are so pleased, that with your help, these families can be "home for the holidays," but we also look ahead to next year. We need to raise another $100,000 to purchase the land for the homes to be built in 1999 to match the funds promised from HUD’s Self-Help Homeownership Program.

Will we be able to continue our goal of building ten homes per year? Will we be able to announce to you in our December 1999 newsletter that ten more families have taken the challenge of home ownership and succeeded?

With your help, we will do it! Would you take a moment to reflect on the many blessings you will be counting as 1998 draws to a close. Then, would you please send a gift in the enclosed envelope to Seattle Habitat for Humanity….actually a gift to our 1999 families.

You have seen what your support has done and you know what it can do. Let’s work together this holiday season to make the new year brighter for ten more families.
