STOCK DONATIONS ARE APPRECIATEDWe are blessed to have so many donations of stock in the past few months. Appreciated stock gifts are good for the donor and good for Habitat, and are a wonderful way to help us continue our mission. We are unable to identify the donors for two of the stock gifts that we received recently. Other gifts were not acknowledged in a timely manner because it took some research to find out who the donors were. This is a common problem, and unfortunately there are few solutions. The Securities and Exchange Commission says: when your broker transfers a stock electronically, they must include certain things, but not necessarily the giver's name. Unless we have a name, it is virtually impossible to move ahead and the gift goes under anonymous in our data base with no address and with no way to acknowledge the gift. The only way we can be sure that your gift of stock is recorded correctly is to hear from you before or just after the donation. If you have recently made a gift of stock to Seattle Habitat and have not received an acknowledgment, please let us know. If you plan to donate a gift of stock in the future, please call so we can record it. |
