NEWS FROM THE SITES:
Shoreline Homes Dedicated

Despite cloudy skies, more than 100 people attended the Shoreline site dedications on August 11th. The warmth of thanks and joy more than made up for the chilly weather, however, as Seattle Habitat Board President Kathryn Kurtz and Vice President Rita Lindle led the dedication. Dan Coppin, President of the Shoreline Coalition of Churches, along with Nicki Gates, Julie Alaimo, and Laurie Reed of the Women's Build project, presented gifts to each of the families.

There weren't many dry eyes in the audience when the three recipient families spoke of their gratitude to the dedicated volunteers for a "dream come true." The family members present included Leonard and Patricia Franklin and their children Leonard III, Lance, Erica, Evonne, Christopher, Timothy, and Latifa; Diane McLemore and her children Charles and Dion; Rita Turner and her children, Shanelle, Jennifer, Michael, and Erik.

Music was provided by Bruce Holton, jazz pianist, and the Shoreline Coalition provided sweet refreshments. A surprise came in the form of two delicious cakes donated by the Franklin Family!

Special thanks to the sponsors of the three homes: Shoreline Coalition of Churches, The USAA Foundation, Women Building for Humanity, and Marcia Mellinger. We'd also like to thank the KOMO News team for sending a cameraperson.

A growing break in the clouds, along with a lovely white and pink sunset, dramatically closed the ceremony!
