How
You See a Community is Much a Matter of How You Look at it.
|
.
| In learning about communities,
it is useful to know about the science of sociology, and the reasoning
behind its practical applications such as community empowerment. |
. |
The most important contribution of
the discipline is the “Sociological Perspective,” the way of defining
and looking at society used by social scientists. |
..
| Further, as a foundation
for this topic, it is useful to look at the three founding fathers of sociology,
Marx, Weber, and Durkheim. |
. |
While they did not contribute the
terms or identify the approaches, their writings led sociologists to three
classical perspectives, conflict, symbolic interaction and functional. |
..
| Unlike the standard modules
on this site, this module does not consist of different documents for different
readers and different purposes. |
. |
All are short essays based upon my
lecture notes, and aimed at the beginner in the study of sociology. |
..
|
Serious students are advised to start
with these but go to more standard and complete sources of the three classical
sociologists and the three classical perspectives.
