The COPCAB is an official City board consisting of nine members, including residents, business people, a school representative and a local high student. The board was started on February 22, 1994, per City ordinance number 1691. The board supports community partnerships between government, the business sector and citizens to identify and solve problems and empower people and neighborhoods to help themselves. COPCAB meets monthly with the Chief of Police to make recommendations on issues of public safety and to promote community policing.
In 2001 and 2002, the board sponsored Spanish language classes for the Tukwila Police Department. Additionally, COPCAB honors outstanding individuals who demonstrate community-policing excellence with COP awards. In 2002, Sgt. Eric Drever, Tukwila Police (see photo above); and Jan Tolland, former Tukwila resident, both received COP Awards for their contribution to the Tukwila community. The COPCAB also works in partnership with the Highway 99 Action Committee to promote community safety. Shown in the photo below, Jeri Frangello-Anderson (center) discusses ways to stop drug paraphernalia sales in Tukwila with Dave Fenton (council member - right).
