United and other major carriers offer flights in the US. SAS, JAL, Northwestern and many other offer flights to and from Asia and Europe. This list is incomplete!
We have not identified an "official carrier" for this symposium.
This symposium will take place (for the most part) in the University District, north of downtown. Transportation options from the airport include cabs, public transportation via Metro, or various shuttle services.
The first is that we're meeting at the HUB, the student union building on the University of Washington campus. This is in the U-District neighborhood Seattle north and slightly to the east of downtown Seattle. Seattle itself is about 20 miles north of Sea-Tac airport. To get to the University from either the south or the north, drive on Interstate 5 towards Seattle. Get off at the 45th NE exit and head west. From the airport shuttle busses may be the best bet ($20?) but you can also go with public transportation during much of the day for the extremely good value of 2 or so dollars. The public transportation doesn't run all of the time, however, and you will have to change busses at least once. The bus drivers will help you! The public bus (metro) web site is http://transit.metrokc.gov/. A taxi ride is most expensive but, of course, it's door to door service. It should cost around $35.
There are maps of the campus available. Check the symposium web site ( http://www.scn.org/cpsr/diac-00/seainfo.html) or the university web site (http://www.washington.edu).
All of Saturday's events will take place in the HUB. The workshops on Monday will take place in Savery Hall which is within walking distance from the HUB. The Joy / Chapman / Rheingold event is in Kane Hall while the special hApPeNiNg is in downtown at iSpy.
The second piece of useful news is that there are a couple of other activities in the area to add some confusion. The first is a STREET FESTIVAL on Saturday and Sunday. (The street festival features a multitude of craft booths, food, entertainment, and traffic congestion.) University Way, the main street paralleling the University of Washington campus, will be closed to vehicles and choked with pedestrians. It would be wise to avoid this area if you're in a car. Also parking on the street in this area will be very difficult. If you are in a car you'll want to park in one of the University of Washington parking lots. The best idea is to enter from Mountlake on the east side of campus away from the street fair hubbub. The UW gate here is called Pend D'Oreille. Tell them you're with the symposium and they'll be nicer to you (I hope!) than if you were going to the Street Fair. You'd like to park in the "N" lots slightly up on the hill. These are preferable to the "E" lot on the flat directly east of Mountlake. There is a also a parking lot under Kane Hall that you enter from the west side. This is likely to be jammed with Street Fair goers, however.
Parking in a UW lot on the weekend is cheap. $2.50 if you arrive before noon on Saturday (which I hope you will). It's FREE after noon on Saturday and all day Sunday.
Also -- if that weren't enough -- I have learned that there is a big "Beat the Bridge" marathon on Sunday. IF you are in a car THEN enter the UW campus from the north from NE 45th near N. 16th. IF the street fair is in full tilt you may have to drive further north and then come back down south
If driving... LEAVE PLENTY OF TIME IN ORDER TO GET TO THE SYMPOSIUM ON TIME!

This just in: The University Street Fair is the same weekend as the symposium. This will make traffic a little more problematic.
Summer is coming so hope for the best. Unfortunately rain can come at any time. I wouldn't bring an umbrella, however.
