Seattle Head Start
Enriched preschool programs for 3- to 5-year-olds from low-income families. Part of Seattle Public Schools.
Applicants are encouraged to use the mailing address. Applications may be dropped off at the main receptionist desk of the John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence, 2445 3rd Avenue South, Seattle (no mail to this address), but there is very limited parking.
Parents with children in the Head Start program are eligible to consult with an employment specialist who can help with an assessment of job skills and resume writing. Education, retraining and a job search are then part of the program.

Referrals to day care homes and centers, sliding scale fees.
Wellspring Family Services Baby Boutique
Free diapers and children's clothing for homeless families. Referrals for other services.
Wellspring Family Services Early Learning Center
Specialized childcare for homeless children ages 1-5 years old. Transportation, meals, in-classroom therapy, pediatric nurse practitioner, dental screenings. Provides diapers, clothing, warm coats, toys.
PEPS Program for Early Parent Support
Neighborhood support groups for parents of infants to 3 years old.
Day and evening programs. There is a fee, but scholarships are available.
Parent Trust for Washington
Children/Family Help Line
Parent Trust Support Group:
Free support groups and help for parents who are
experiencing stress in parenting. Children's programs provided free while
parents attend the group.
Childhaven's Crisis Nursery
24-hour crisis phone line, informationand referral, emergency daycare for children birth to six. No fees.
Adelle Maxwell Child Care Center
Child care facility for low-income and homeless families.
Family Support Worker Program
Children's Response Center
Serves children and youth in East and North King County who have been victims of sexual assault or other trauma, and their non-offending family members. Provides counseling, medical and legal advocacy, plus referrals for other services.
Besides their dealing with cases of known sexual abuse/assault, you can contact them if you are concerned that your child may have been sexually abused/assaulted, and would like to discuss your concerns with someone.
Also provide other related services, such as education about early identification and prevention of child abuse and sexual assault, support services for families after the death of a loved one, etc.
Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Food (WIC)
Nutritional education and food vouchers for pregnant or breast-feeding
low-income women & families who have children under the age of 5. Available through
numerous locations including
all Public Health clinics.
DSHS Children's Administration
Formerly Children's Protective Services (CPS). Investigates reports of child abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Family
counseling services. This is a government agency with enforcement powers.
