Until just 30 years ago, the Milky Way was visible from Seattle. Only in this very last generation of human history has that profound view been lost. Today, fully 70% of the world’s population has lost contact with the night sky that had inspired awe in humans for millennia.

Dark Skies Northwest is dedicated to preserving and promoting beautiful night time skies in the Northwest United States - Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Washington.

Our Mission:

Largely, because of a proliferation of unregulated, glaring lights can the Milky Way be no longer be seen from Seattle. With the adoption of Full Cut-Off lighting and appropriate lighting levels, our view of the Milky Way can be restored.
