SUBJECT: YARD LIGHT EXTENSIONS, INSTALLATIONS AND REPLACEMENTS

I.     .

PURPOSE

To establish guidelines for the installation of new energy-efficient non polluting yard lights and the replacement and shielding of old mercury vapor yard lights.

II.

POLICY CONTENT

Available to all consumers, for dusk to dawn outdoor lighting, in close proximity to existing overhead secondary circuits, subject to the established rules and regulations of the Cooperative.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:

  1. The member will pay the full cost of a yard light installation and will pay a monthly rent fee under Policy No. 30-160.
  2. The Cooperative shall install, operate and maintain the outdoor lighting equipment including lamp, luminaries, bracket attachment and control device on a pole of the cooperative's at a location mutually agreeable to both consumer and the Cooperative. The installation shall be done in a manner and location so as to minimize light glare and light trespass onto adjacent properties or road ways.
  3. The light will be electrically connected so that the power for operation does not pass through a KWH meter.
  4. The lighting equipment will remain the property of the Cooperative. The consumer will protect the lighting equipment from damage.
  5. Only energy-effiicient fixtures will be used such as low-pressure sodium, high pressure sodium and metal halide. All fixtures will be of the non-light polluting design types. The conservation department in conjunction with the lighting committee will approve light types.
  6. No member may place a switch on a cooperative owned yard light.
  7. When an old mercury vapor light breaks down it will be replaced with an energy efficient non-polluting type of lighting fixture.
  8. The cooperative will have a goal of changing out all the old mercury vapor polluting yard lights to energy efficient non-polluting yard lights over time as budget and work load allow.
  9. For the short term the cooperative will place a shield free of charge on existing yard lights when requested by members. Where a shield does not satisfy either the member that's renting the yard light or the member that has complained a new enegry-efficient non-light polluting yard light will be installed.

RESPONSIBILITY

The general manager and employees shall be responsible for the implementation of this policy.
