Meadowbrook Detention Pond, a Seattle Public Utilities site, combines flood control with native plantings for fish and wildlife; a boardwalk that allows visitors to view wildlife without disturbing their environment; and touches of art tucked here and there. sundial at Meadbrook Detention Pond
Wildlife seen here includes two (sometimes three) very busy beavers (hence the fencing around the trees), kingfishers, mallards, song sparrows and an occasional great blue heron.

In season, pileated woodpeckers, buffleheads, hooded mergansers, gadwells, green-winged teals and grebes visit this site in route to/from their nesting destinations. Shorebirds such as killdeer, and yellow legs often stop on the muddy banks.
Baby mallards can be found here every spring.

main creek with salmon hiding places The main branch of the creek is shaded by native vegetation; and large rocks and gravel have been added for salmon fingerling hiding, and egg laying.
