- Initial Plan Due: May 10, 1997
- Project Due: May 24, 1997
Description
This project is one of the three optional projects for Spring. Each student
is required to complete two of them. If this project is chosen,
the student will develop and implement a community cyber-service
project. This means developing a plan and using networked communication in
some way that
benefits some "community" (which could be based on gender, age, ethnicity,
geographical location, economic situation, etc.).
We will be very flexible as to what constitutes an acceptable community
cyber-service project.
Some suggestions include...
- Work with a local school district or other non-profit or civic institution
- Work with the South Sound Community Computer Network (SSCCN) to develop
content, functionality, public access sites, or other services.
- Develop and market useful community resource information on the web.
- Provide additional information or services to an existing web site
(the "Community Network
Movement" page, for example), list-serv, community
network, etc.
- Develop an annotated bibliography
- Organize a public talk, panel discussion, or workshop
- Help to develop the "Evergreen Community Network."
- Develop training material and training people to use electronic services
- Interview people in the community about their thoughts on "community",
"community service" and other related concepts.
The project can be related to the virtual event project.
Each student will turn in an initial plan on May 10. At a minimum
the plan will include a topic, possible title(s), brief descriptions of
project and
steps that need to be taken to complete the project.
