I first started Schuhplattling in the early 80’s after returning home from a tour with the Army in Germany. Many members of my family had been dancing with the Schuhplattler Verein Heidengold in Rochester, New York, for years, so I decided to become an active dancing member of the club. I have never regretted the decision, as I have met many very good friends over those years and also visited many cities while taking part in Gaufests and Fahnenweihes. I was later voted in as Vorplattler for the Heidengold and retained the position for 2 years before returning to active duty in the Army to make it my career.
I lost contact with schuhplattling during my 21 years in the Army, but upon retiring in the Seattle area I was lucky enough to meet members of Enzian Schuhplattler during the summer of 2009. I became a member in September of 2009 and have enjoyed the friendship and dancing ever since.
