Fahnenweihe

Join us for our Fahnenweihe, Sunday, September 1, 2013!

A Fahnenweihe is the celebration held to dedicate a new flag. It includes a church service (traditionally, a Catholic mass), where the flag is blessed, and a big party.

Our Fahnenweihe will start at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seattle. The mass will be conducted in English and German and includes a ceremonial blessing of the Fahne. Immaculate Conception is the oldest standing Catholic Church in Seattle, built in 1904. It was declared a historical landmark in 1974. It is a beautiful church, built in the style of European cathedrals.

Following the mass, the event moves to the Ballard Elks Lodge for dinner and dancing. The Ballard Elks ballroom looks out on an amazing view of Puget Sound. The large wood dance floor will be perfect for dancing to the rousing rhythms of the Happy Hans Band. There will be excellent German adult beverages, wonderful German food, and lots of dancing and entertainment.

Details are still being worked out, but reserve the date now, and plan to celebrate with us!
