Kurt and his wife Jenny developed their love for Germany while living there from 1994-98 as they studied and lived in Freiburg, Germany. There, Kurt was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and studied to be an opera singer. Jenny taught English at many schools and businesses. They enjoyed many trips to every corner of Germany and especially enjoyed finding the perfect Christkindlmarkt during the Chrismas season. While there, they never once saw a German dance group perform either live or on television. An Oktoberfest performance in Tacoma, Washington, in 2002 introduced them to Enzian Schuhplattler and their newfound interest in Bavarian culture and Schuhplattling.
Kurt and Jenny started practicing with Enzian in January of 2003 and joined the group in March that year. They have three young children.
