Joys of the Season

The most wonderful gift that you can give, not just at this season but all the year round, is yourself. Especially those hours that you share with children. To better enable this, we are asking you to re-submit your volunteer application so that we can take account of any needed changes, or to help in making assignments more suitable to your current situation. We also need your new W.S.P. clearance application every two years to comply with the laws for protecting our children. Please complete and return these forms to us as soon as possible in the free mailer provided, and we will take care of the rest.

The Museum of Flight's Great Gallery and the Red Barn 9404 East Marginal Way So, Seattle Don't overlook this valuable resource for science education for children of all ages. Encourage your local schools to schedule a field trip, it will be a highlight for all students and their teachers and mentors. Plan for the AD 2001 Annual Engineering Fair Start now to encourage all your pupils, teachers and K-12 schools to put together a field trip to this exciting annual science event. The Engineer's Fair will again be held at the Crossroads Shopping Mall at Overlake/Bellevue next year, on Saturday and Sunday, February 17th and 18th. You can help us to make this the best Engineer's Fair of the 21st. Century. Everyone coming to the Fair has a novel chance to talk to working engineers, and explore with them the latest technology, and the various techniques we use to solve the problems encountered in aircraft and automotive design, civil engineering construction, electrical-electronic systems, manufacturing, welding technology, and transportation systems of every kind. Children will enjoy competitions and get various freebies.

Contact your own Society's PSEC rep. and help to plan your booth. You can join hands-on science explorations with the volunteers at our own Bluebills booth and assist the engineers and teachers involved in Science Olympiad, World in Motion, Future Engineers and Scientists of America, and Math Counts. Call us to schedule you at a convenient time. What role will you play? Fair 2001 flyers and posters to read and deliver to the teachers and schools of your choice are free from www.eweek.org. Please don't delay, make your Web and telephone contacts now, and be sure to get the materials into the right hands at the right time!

Future Scientists & Engineers of America (FSEA) is a program that promotes school-industry-mentor partnerships to provide students with a continual hands-on learning experience in science and technology. Students from grades 4 to 12 develop a personal portfolio of certificates and awards for projects, as they advance through five levels from 'Engineering Technician' to 'Engineering Specialist' and gain their appropriate badges. We will help you to establish a requested FSEA Chapter in schools in and around Seattle, and for your own chosen school. Some sponsoring funds are available. For more information call Stan Baber at 253/862-8507 or by E-mail to StanB8060@aol.com.
