A powerful influence on the Fremont Solstice Parade, Dave McKay was a transplant from Santa Barbara, California, who moved many people with his gentle spirit and great talent. Tragically, he passed on in 1995, leaving us a rich legacy of masks and costumes, a deep interest in creating and exploring mythologies, and an example of inspired lunacy. The banner he designed and is seen with here has been adopted as the logo of the Fremont Arts Council and, thanks to a small bequest he left us and the energy of Norma Baum, it is reproduced in the Solstice Banners which mark our parade route and flutter over the neighborhood all summer long. This shot was taken at the 1994 Solstice Parade.
