General Membership Meeting Scheduled for March 19th

Everyone is invited to the first General Membership Meeting of 1997 on Wednesday, March 19th, beginning at 7:00PM at the Newport Way Public Library at 14250 SE Newport Way.

This is an opportunity for you to meet the board members and officers of HCCA, ask questions, and get involved!

At this meeting, we will nominate and elect a President and Vice-President for 1997, so attendance is important!

Also, we have invited a special guest speaker who will give a presentation to members about when the best time is to trim trees, shrubs, and hedges, and how to do it!

What is HCCA, And What Does it Do?

At the November and January board meetings, a general discussion was held regarding the activities and benefits of membership in the Horizon Crest Community Association.

Here’s what HCCA does:
Holds general meetings on topics of interest to our neighborhood. Past topics have included the City of Bellevue Neighborhood Enhancement Program, Neighborhood Mediation Program, traffic control, and mini-park planning.
Maintains connection with city to implement maintenance and improvements in the neighborhood.
Organizes and supports annual neighborhood cleanup
Assists residents to mediate disputes.
Maintains islands in Horizon Crest area. New plantings of flowers and shrubbery when necessary. Maintains lights at main entrance island (SE 48th Dr. at 151st Ave. SE).
Helps residents interpret covenants
Publishes a newsletter to inform residents of current events, meetings, etc.

The officers and board members are all Horizon Crest residents who volunteer their time and effort to help make our neighborhood a better place to live.

Comments From Members

The payment coupon for 1997 dues included a short survey. Here’s how some people responded to

"Do you have any comments?"
No
Seems to me that the association does a great job with enhancements and decorations…
Newly planted trees are exceeding height restrictions.
Nice job on publications
We need a playground!
I’d like to know more of what [the association] does.
You are doing a wonderful job
Did you know one of your members is a city council member?
Great newsletter
Good job from officers. Great newsletter. I think we need more "voice" with the city regarding street maintenance for snow.
Nope
Impressive newsletter
Thank you for including a stamped, addressed return envelope
What a nice job on the newsletter
I wish cars would park in their garages or driveway not on the street. It is unsightly and dangerous for kids, cats, and dogs.
Thanks for all the work you do.
Thank you for your involvement. We are not able to participate at this time.
The work you do is wonderful. A huge thank you to all of you.
This form sounds unfriendly.

1997 Membership Drive Update

Newsletters were mailed out on Monday, December 9, 1996 which contained a questionnaire, payment coupon, and pre-addressed stamped envelope.
Most residents received the Newsletter and Questionnaire by Wednesday, December 12th.
Our first check arrived on Friday, December 13th
As of Wednesday, February 5th, we have received 76 dues payments and two 'negative' responses.
Currently, 33.3% of all Horizon Crest households have sent in dues (76 of 228).
This year, we have eight new members who have not joined previously.
So far, membership for 1997 is about 37% ahead of 1996! That’s 22 more paid members so far this year than last year!
There are still 43 members from 1995 or 1996 who have not paid their dues for 1997! If just those prior members pay their dues, we’ll reach the 50% mark with ease!
Dues for 1997 were due by January 31, 1997, but we’ve had such a great response that we’re sending out reminder notices to everyone who hasn’t yet paid!
If you have already sent in your payment, thank you for your timely response!!!

Have You Seen This Sled?

Alice and Clark Coad-Chapman have reported that they had "a red sled attached to three skis, with a steering wheel" removed from their yard (on SE 48th Dr. near 155th Ave. SE) during a recent snow. They’re hoping a Horizon Crest family found it in their yard. If you have seen this sled, please contact Alice and Clark through HCCA by sending an email message to hcca@juno.com.
