General Meeting Scheduled For Tuesday February 17th

A General Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 1998 at 7:00PM at the Newport Way Public Library. All Horizon Crest residents and owners are encouraged to attend.

At this meeting, we’ll be nominating and voting for officers (president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer) for 1998, and signing up other volunteers as board members and committee members.

Also, we will have Tom Noguchi, deputy director of the City of Bellevue Transportation Department in attendance to discuss traffic improvements planned and underway for our south Bellevue neighborhood. He will happily field questions about road and traffic problems, street revisions, new traffic signals, and general frustrations we may have, and what can be done about them. He is very well informed and this will be a very interesting presentation for all residents.

The floor will also be opened to anyone who wishes to address the meeting or ask questions about our neighborhood or the Community Association.

Following the meeting, as always, we’ll be treated to coffee and cookies.

This is a great chance to get informed, get involved, and meet your neighbors! We’ll see you there on Tuesday February 17th!!!

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed to run for HCCA officer positions (president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary), as well as board members and committee members (architectural, membership, and neighborhood enhancement).

If you’d like to get involved in activities of your neighborhood, this is the perfect opportunity! Volunteers need only devote as much time as they can. Everyone who is currently actively involved in the association have jobs and social activities that limit their time, but they volunteer some of their free time for the benefit of our neighborhood.

It takes only a couple of hours a month, and formal meetings are always at the convenience those attending.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in your community and help shape the direction and activities of not only our neighborhood, but also the community association.

1998 Membership Drive Is Under Way!

The 1998 HCCA Membership Drive is under way! Last year was a record breaker with 109 members! That’s more than double the number from 1996!

This year, we’re shooting for a 50% total membership. So, with 228 homes in Horizon Crest, we need 114 members -- an increase of only five members over last year.

Be sure to fill out the enclosed membership certificate and enclose it with your check for $20 made out to Horizon Crest Community Association and mail it in the enclosed stamped pre-addressed envelope.

You can really help us out by mailing the certificate before January 31st. In February, members of the Membership Committee will be contacting residents who haven’t returned the 1998 membership certificate. Committee members are all volunteers who donate some of their limited free time to HCCA. You can help by returning the certificate in advance to help the Membership Committee members save some of their valuable time.

1997 Membership Summary

Division Members Percentage
2 51 of 83 61.4%
3 20 of 44 45.5%
4 28 of 82 34.1%

Horizon Crest And The City Of Bellevue Snow Removal Policies

The city has recently purchased four new snowplow rigs that will help serve us “hill people” better when the snow falls. In addition, SE 48th Drive, and connections over the top of our hill, down to 159th Place SE and through Whispering Heights have been classified as “Neighborhood Priority Routes”. This means that when snow accumulates, our main road through the Horizon Crest community will be plowed as soon as possible after the primary (4-lane roads, for example), secondary (Highland Dr, 140th Ave NE, and bus routes, as examples), and tertiary (150th Ave SE by our west entrance, for example) routes have been cleared. Other neighborhood streets can be cleared as equipment is available. You can call the Transportation Department’s Bellevue Service Center at 425-452-7840 to report a street or cul-de-sac that needs clearing. They also have a limited supply of nifty color snow route maps available.

Sidewalk Overgrowth Clearing Service - Free!

You can report vegetation overgrowth on sidewalks and blocking line-of sight at intersections to Bellevue’s Street Maintenance division. They will come to the site, clear the problem, and haul it away. No charge. Call 425-452-7840 to report the problem and it will be taken care of!

Horizon Crest On The World Wide Web!

Last November, the Horizon Crest Community Association Web Page received a mention in the City of Bellevue’s It’s Your City newspaper in an article about the Neighborhood Network program:

Horizon Crest Web Site -- The next time you “surf the Internet” be sure to visit Horizon Crest Community Association’s Web site
(http://www.concentric.net/~jeffgo/hcca/)
Bellevue’s first “on line” neighborhood organization, Horizon Crest offers an electronic newsletter, a list of current events, a membership update, general information about the neighborhood, and links to Web sites in Bellevue and the Puget Sound area.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 2, 1998: The HCCA Web Page is now hosted by Seattle Community Network!

If you have trouble accessing the page, send an email message to Jeff Goldman at jeffgo@concentric.net.

If you have an idea for something that you’d like to see on the HCCA Web page (or if you’d like to help maintain it), please send an email to hcca@scn.org
