In a pristine setting beside glacier-fed rivers in the Cascade foothills in Washington State just 2-1/2 hours from Seattle, the second annual CASCADE EARLY MUSIC FESTIVAL at Icicle Creek will once again offer diverse period instrument performances and workshops with widely recognized performers who will be available in daily master classes and workshops, with exposure to various instruments and dance available to all if desired. Lecture-demonstrations explore The Cristofori Piano with Hans-Jürgen Schnoor and Edwin Good, European musical pitch in 1700, Quantz and the Baroque Dynamic, and Bruce Haynes' most recent project, Authenticity and Happiness: Paradox and Serendipity in Ancient Music.

2005 CRISTOFORI PROJECT
In celebration of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Bartolomeo Cristofori! Acclaimed historical keyboard instrument builders Thomas and Barbara Wolf in Washington, DC have thoroughly researched a fortepiano built in 1722 by Bartolomeo Cristofori, and have just completed the most authentic reproduction to date. The Cascade Early Music Festival will be the first to acquire it for extensive use in solo and chamber music performance, and in workshop and lecture-demonstration. This will provide a singular opportunity to hear this exquisite reproduction of one of the most remarkable and influential keyboard instruments, and its unique tonal qualities whose function in the early 18th century has hardly been explored. Please click for more information about our Cristofori Project.

The Festival is sponsored in part by the Icicle Fund, the Washington State Arts Commission, the Grünewald Guild and the Icicle Creek Music Center.
