Neighborhood Business Spotlight

NO WAY CAFÉ

1319 East Jefferson Street

206-325-3597

For years, Melissa Miller was a regular at Debbie’s Café at 14th and Jefferson. She joked with customers that when Debbie retired, Melissa was going to open a new café in the same location, only this café would offer organically grown, sustainable, vegetarian and vegan food. Most people’s response to this idea? “No way” would that concept work in Squire Park. Three years later, the “No Way Café” is still in business at 14th and Jefferson.

Melissa is a 12-year resident of our neighborhood and a strong believer in community empowerment. The people at the café are extremely friendly and seem to know the names of all their customers. They offer an in-house bakery and get most of their ingredients from local farmers and dairies. All the eggs are free-range. Their position on additives or preservatives is “If we can’t pronounce it, we will not buy it.” The coffee served is from sustainable/equal-exchange growers who try to limit environmental degradation and offer improved working conditions for the people harvesting the beans.

After much demand from local residents, the No Way Café is offering a dinner menu and expanded hours beginning April 7th. They also have beer and wine, do catering, and may offer brunch in the future. Mention that you read about the No Way Cafe in this article, and they’ll throw in a free latte with the purchase of a meal. There’s “No way” you can go wrong at this friendly neighborhood restaurant.
