Clean 2000 Spring has arrived, and with its
energy of new growth comes the inspiration to get out of our homes
and enjoy the neighborhood. Unfortunately, our winter weather
doesn't always incline us to keep up appearances at the street
level. The City of Seattle anticipates this with its annual Spring
Clean program. Spring Clean provides city resources to groups of
neighbors who want to organize clean-up projects in their
neighborhood. This year, Spring Clean starts on the
1st of April and continues until the 14th of May. The Spring Clean
program provides flyers for publicity, plastic bags, and free
disposal for litter from public spaces. In addition to picking up
litter, groups can plant or maintain street trees and remove or
paint over graffiti. Many projects are small and may consist of just
a few people working on one block. It doesn't take a lot of time to have
a real effect, so get out and take care of your block. Spring Clean
can be reached at (206) 233-7187. Visit their web site at
www.ci.seattle.wa.us/util/ept/springclean/. Call SPCC board member
Paul Pemberton (325-5663), and he will assist with your project. Paul Pemberton
