View Ridge Community Council
Board of Trustees Meeting
November 19,2002
The meeting was called to order by
President Lesley Sullivan at 7 pm.
Lesley introduced Zander Batchelder of
Seattle District Now. He discussed the proposed charter
amendment to elect Seattle City Council members by district.
Each council member would be elected by and represent one of nine
districts. There would be approximately 62,000 people in
each district. He cited 3 reasons for this proposed
amendment.
1. There would be more
accountability by the council members
2. There would be better
representation and more diversity.
3. Better candidates would be
elected.
Many other cities use this method.
Eric Friedli was next introduced by our
president. He gave an update on current happenings at Sand Point
Magnuson Park. He talked briefly about the lighting
proposal which is being appealed. Another hearing about the
lighting is scheduled for Dec. 7, 2002.
He gave a very complete discussion of
capital projects going on at SPMP. They included; The North
Shore Project, Building 47, Hanger 30, Community Garden, Off
Leash area, non-city projects including Homeless Housing Units,
Building 5, 29, 9, 25 and the playfields.
The minutes of October 15, 2002 were
approved as corrected.
The treasurers report was given.
297 households have contributed $3,565. This is an average
of $12.10 per household. Expenditures this month totaled $3,635.62,
leaving a balance of $2521.62.
Correspondence: President
Lesley read a letter from Bob Rench (Sand Point Community Housing)
concerning the city budget and how it might affect their budget
and asked for our support to prevent a change.
Committee Reports:
- Bob Lucas reported that
the NEDC meeting had been canceled for last month.
- Dick Hillmans NPAC
report was concerning the Green Lake fire engine which is
back with a crew of 3.
- SPMP Communications
report usually given by Neale Weaver was covered in Eric
Friedlis update.
Old Business:
- Doug Ancona addressed the
issue of lighting at SPMP. There is great concern
because the field is used mainly by adults at night not
from this area.
- President Lesley wrote a
letter to the Director of the Department of
Transportation pertaining to the traffic problems on 58th
and 77th streets, stating that this problem is
only going to get worse as more cars will be using these
streets in the future.
- Doug Ancona moved that
the VRCC invite a policy level person from the city
library to explain more specifically the purpose of the
special opportunity fund and how the NE Seattle
neighborhood would be involved. The motion was
passed and our president consented to do this.
- Bob Lucas moved that he
and Doug Ancona be the new representative and alternate
respectively to the NEDC. This motion was passed.
Meeting adjourned at 9 pm.
Respectfully submitted, Doris
Moehring
