On October 14, 2000, we installed about 4,200 plants!! This breaks down to about 3,500 'wetland plants' (in tubes, 2" & 4" containers, and bare roots) with the balance of 700 being trees & shrubs. This in addition to laying anti-erosion jute netting over the non-peat wetland areas (about 1/2 acre) and getting started on the bird-exclosure fencing. What a great start!

Subject: UPDATE: Roxhill Park Wetland Restoration

Dear Westwood Neighbors:

The Roxhill Park Wetland Restoration Steering Committee wanted to remind everyone that the second wetland planting party is this Saturday, from 9:00am (breakfast) until 1:00pm.

Beginning at 1:00pm a community celebration is planned, with guest speakers (so far confirmed) including Greg Nickels and Margaret Pageler, and Department of Neighborhoods representatives. There will be musical entertainment as well.

So please, come join us. Plant a tree, blade of wetland grass, or a huckleberry bush. OUr headquarters (tents) will be located south of Westwood Town Center (Target) off of SW Barton Street at 29th Avenue SW.

Last Saturday was phenomenal! We installed about 4,200 plants!!

Looking ahead, we have about 2,000+ trees & shrubs and about 7,500 more wetland plants to install. A lot of these grasses, rushes & sedges will go on the slopes surrounding the peatland, where (before planting) we have to lay jute matting as well. There will also be seed to broadcast in the peatland and "coir" (coconut-fiber) matting to lay down over over the seed.
