Roxhill Bog News

February 2002 Bog Event

Our February Bog Event is Saturday, February 9th, 10am-2pm.

Activities will include:

• a Winter Botany activity
• Photo Monitoring
• Mulching & Replanting/Relocation of a small number of plants

As mentioned in January's work party invitation, the netting has been removed and the Bog has been unveiled. Please join us at or just stop by for a visit to see how the bog has taken shape after just one year, thousands of hours of volunteer time and the addition of 30,000 plants.

Our efforts to restore the Bog during 2000 & 2001 have paid off and the re-established Bog is growing & developing well. Now, our maintenance tasks are much less than in the critical first year. As we move into 2002, it's time to focus on the Bog's developing ecosystem through education & discovery activities as well as beginning Phase II of the wetland restoration. Please watch for an invitation to a public gathering to discuss plans for Roxhill Bog Phase II, coming up in early March.

At 2002 work parties, we plan to continue to explore the Bog and its residents with educational activities. Please watch for upcoming announcements to include:

• Ethnobotany - exploring native plants and their uses in Native American culture
• Birds & Bats in the Wetland - exploration & discovery
• 2nd Saturday Bog Event
