Meetings

We meet the third Thursday of each month, September through May, at the Knights of Columbus hall, 302 E. Boone Ave., Spokane, WA from 11:15am to about 1:30pm. We have a buffet lunch, announcements, sometimes a program and lots of visiting and fellowship. The executive committee meets that same day at 9:00am for a business meeting and any member is welcome to attend.

Carey Fitch will be our guest speaker at our Feburary 16, 2009 meeting. He will talk about the alcohol abuse program that Qwest sponsors.

Projects

Our Pioneers volunteered to help with the Senior Wellness Conference in Sept. and in October we participated in KXLY’s Coats 4 Kids distribution. Several of our crocheters and knitters had made hats to give with the coats.

We continue to collect old cell phones to be given to domestic violence prevention programs. Currently we are collecting cancelled stamps from our mail. They are sent to a veterans hospital for use in therapeutic artwork.

Patty Boyce is our President and she may be reached on (509) 466-2668.

Dues Increase

Greetings Pioneers:

Thank you for being a valuable member of the Qwest Washington Pioneers.

The Pioneer Board of Directors approved a membership dues increase from $15 to $22 effective this June – the first dues increase for us since 1998. You will see $0.85 per pay period deducted from your paycheck – up from $0.58 – starting June 13, 2009.

The increase will help fund our projects here in Washington. It also helps us ensure we can continue to offer you meaningful volunteer opportunities along with the benefits of national partnerships. To learn more about what we are doing in Washington or to get more involved, please visit please email Sandy at scramer581@aol.com

Additionally, Pioneers have developed programs, such as Power Up To Read and Project Connect, that enable Pioneers to deliver valuable educational services at little or no cost to schools and community organizations. These programs also support the Qwest for Education Programs.

We appreciate your continued support as we work together to provide services in our communities that improve the quality of life for the less fortunate.
